Workshop no.1
Theme: The Little Things in Life: exploring macro and close-up photography
Location: Tsukishima
Wet weather plan: the street there is covered. We can use same location if it’s wet or dry.

Often the most interesting subjects are the things we overlook in our daily lives. Macro photography is one way of looking at the world around you in a completely different way. It focuses your attention on smaller details, tuning your eyes and brain into layers that you often overlook.

There are many ways of shooting close-up photos, many of which do not need expensive macro photography equipment. The iPhone and smartphones in general can be very good at shooting extreme closeups.

If you have a macro lens, please bring it.
If you are just using your phone, that’s fine.

Alfie will also bring some close-up filters – which are like a magnifying glass that you can screw to the front of your camera ens.

He’ll also have another interesting ‘magnifier’ which people can use.

Where will we meet?
We’ll meet at exit 7 of the subway in Tsukishima. The area is served by both Yurakucho and Oedo Lines.

Where will we walk?
If we have wet weather, we’ll keep to the area along ‘Monja Dori’, which is covered. If the weather is fine, we can export that street and also the little lanes and alleyways that join it. If we have the, there is also an interesting area closely we can explore. Still Tsukishima, but on the northwest side of the station around the Sumiyoshi Jinja.

What gear will I need?
Anything will do, even your smartphone. But if you have a macro lens please bring it along.
